Elder Derrol Dawkins M.D. has served as senior pastor of NSCOG since 1990. His journey with the Lord began about the age of 16 after being provided with a firm foundation in the word and exemplary examples of Christian living by his parents, John and Gwendolyn Dawkins. From the beginning he has served in various capacities in ministry through the youth department as a teenager and active member in the congregation he worshipped with during his collegiate days at Northwestern University.
In 1976, upon return to Birmingham to prepare for a medical career at UAB School of Medicine, he continued to serve in youth ministry on a city wide level with the Northern District Churches of God. During this time he met and married his lovely wife Patricia Harper in 1979.
In 1981, he accepted the call to ministry with a focus on the teaching ministry. In 1990, he began serving as interim pastor at the then Northside Church of God equipping the saints for works of ministry and faithfully preaching and teaching the Word of God. He has served in various capacities of leadership throughout the church locally in the city as well as on state and national levels.
Pastor Dawkins currently serves on boards in the medical community as well as serving the healthcare needs of children and adolescents while practicing as a pediatrician at Metro Pediatrics P.C. which he established in 1984.
He loves the Lord and people and believes that God has uniquely gifted him to serve the total needs of others, ministering holistically to spirit, soul and body. His motto is “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me“. He remains committed to serve the Lord by serving others and equipping them to do the same, advancing the Kingdom of God in the process.
